The plans for the Town Hall will:

  • Ensure the building is continued to be used as a town hall
  • Increase public access into the building and improve movement through the spaces available for use by the public
  • Increase and upgrade facilities by refurbishing the existing accommodation to a higher standard
  • Upgrade the performance of the building by providing a suitable working environment, replacing services, introducing more servicing and increasing the sustainability of the building

  • Upgraded and refurbished council accommodation

  • An external glass canopy to be constructed to provide a covered link between Brixton Hill and the new landscaped courtyard
  • The Assembly Room will be lightly refurbished respecting the architectural significance and character of the spaces
  • Whilst respecting the heritage aspects of the building, new services will be installed throughout the building to improve the efficiency and occupant comfort of the building
  • An insulated green roof system will be provided to the second storey roof addition providing ecological benefits as well as improved thermal performance of the building
  • The roof of the Assembly Halls and adjacent office accommodation will be provided with photovoltaic panels (solar panels) to aid in the renewable energy generation of the triangle site
