This page will provide information about construction works occurring in relation to the Your New Town Hall project.

To ensure the community is fully briefed on the works, you can speak to Muse Developments, McAleer & Rushe and Lambeth Council about any works related queries. Online* Brixton Neighbourhood Construction Forums (BNCF) are being held and monthly newsletters distributed to the neighbourhood surrounding the site.

McAleer & Rushe commenced works on site on Monday 12th October 2020 following completion of the works by O’Keefe Demolition.

Change in methodology


We are proposing a change in methodology to further reduce the noise created on site and provide a protective visual screen to the residents of Beverstone Road. The proposed change will also expediate the demolition through the use of larger excavators that can “munch” their way through the building rather than continuous breaking. We have produced a presentation on this which you can read here.

OMH noise monitoring update


Noise and vibration monitors are placed around the site. These are in use and monitored 24hrs a day to ensure the noise & vibration limits are not reached. All the monitoring systems are linked to an independent monitoring company, and the reports are listed below.

Olive Morris House

Demolition works will begin on site at Olive Morris House on 20 April 2020. Some initial information about the works is provided below in the form of a community presentation*, which was prepared by Olive Morris House demolition contractors, O’Keefe Demolition Ltd, (see contractor background and contact details further down this page).

Covid-19 impacts on Olive Morris House works
Muse Developments and O’Keefe realise that the community will have many questions and also concerns about works being conducted during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Construction and Environmental Management Plan (CEMP)


The Construction and Environmental Management Plan (CEMP) provides details of the works being undertaken on the Olive Morris House site.

The purpose of the CEMP is to:

  • Describe the nature of the construction activities
  • Summarise the likely environmental issues that may arise during construction such as noise, dust and vibration
  • Specify the team’s approach to managing these
  • Outline the construction and demolition programme

The CEMP advisor appointed by the council visits the site on a weekly basis to further monitor site activities. A monthly inspection is produced which you will be able to download below.

Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS)


The Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS) is a national initiative set up by the construction industry. Sites and companies that register with the scheme are monitored against a Code of Considerate Practice, designed to encourage best practice beyond statutory requirements. The scheme focuses on any area of construction activity that may have a direct or indirect impact on the image of the industry as a whole.

Olive Morris House is a registered site with the CCS and site audits are conducted at regular intervals. Their monitor site reports will be uploaded following each visit accordingly for you to access below.
